You don't need to take the doors apart. You really should invest in the CD or 2 part manual for the 123 chassis. Things like the vacuum system are all laid out. The vacuum system is under group 80. Peter |
Use can use the search facility here to find a post of mine a couple months ago describing the vacuum system in pretty good detail. Yes, I could find it for you, but it's better if you learn how to use the search for yourself.

Chances are about 90% that you dislodged a vacuum fitting or broke a vacuum line sometime during the process of working on the hydraulic system. They are very vulnerable under the hood so at first I would just look around at the vacuum lines on the left hand side of the engine and see if you can see one disconnected. It could save you a lot of troubleshooting time. If you were working near vacuum lines when replacing the accumulators, look and see if you dislodged something there.

There is also a shut-off valve at the ignition which you can pick up at the dealer for $30. I had to replace them both.

Ignition switch questions
did you have to get a new key with your new ignition switch, thus having to use 2 keys for the car? Where exactly is it located, how do i remove it? I recently replaced the shut-off valve in the IP and the car still wont shut off, i suspect the ignition switch is leaking vacuum.

No, you don't need a new key. You take out the instrument panel and the valve is behind the key switch. It's very tight in there, but you replace it the Vacuum Valve At Steering Lock.

Make sure you reconnect the two lines in the correct order or you will have vacuum problems. One of those lines has a blue stripe.

Removal of Shut Off valve in IP
In my 84300DT the Oil Filter housing is in the way, can you re & re the Shut Off valve without removing the IP?

sure you can
remove the transmission vacuum modulator, taking care not to break the plastic band that holds the linkage together, and then you have access to the bolts that hold the plate over the shut off valve. you can get to it with the oil filter housing there.

There will be enough diesel in the lines to do harm. The best way to do it is to have the air cleaner stuff removed down to the turbo with a board ready. When this happened to me, I used a DVD case and the engine was shut off in less than 5 seconds....scary 5 seconds for sure. :eek: definitely cleaned out the system though :cool: (not that I recommend this method)
