fuel pedal linkage (don't let this happen to you)
While driving my 1985 300 d today,I noticed the fuel pedal seemed firm. Then I came to a stop, engine now idles at 1400 rpm.Pulled over to stop, turned car off then on-WHAM engine revs all the way over.Car shuts off again (thank goodness).Checked linkage-o.k.then I pushed and pulled the fuel pedal,it came loose as well as found candy wrappers on the underside of it.Made it home-WD-40 the pedal and not only does it run right,my cruise control does not jerk and hesitate. What's up with that ? I guess this problem started a while back and now fixed.Wanted to pass that along and hope it is helpful.

There is a Mercedes Technical Bullitin regarding the candy wrapper/Throttle issue.
