Mercedes virus strikes again! How long before you develop immunity??

This must be a disease, right?:p
I've been bitten (or smitten:) ) again! Oilslick gets the credit (or blame:p ) for introducing me to this beauty! The car was discussed previously here. We don't have the car yet, but have committed (or SHOULD BE committed :p ) to do so. I love this colour (are we going to be twins Gottawagon?), and 'rust-free' is just not something we will ever find here. And the engine hubby's rebuilding needs a home.:p So, I HOPE this was a good decision, and not just feverish delerium as a result of the MB virus! The current owner claims that it needs new rings (smokes badly/hard to start). Sounds another engine to rebuild! We'll soon be 'the' experts here. :p I wonder if there is something funky with the electrical, as he told me the AC blows fuses, and he told my husband that they converted to R134, and that it was killing the battery so they had to do some funky wiring. There is an on/off switch for the AC below the glove box....? Oh well, we'll figure it out. Now we just have to get it here. I don't suppose anyone is coming west with an empty flatbed truck??:p Or at least, does anyone have a shipping company they would recommend. I have some quotes, but haven't decided yet. The current owner calls her Buttercup. We may just keep it, it seems to suit.:) Buttercup, buttercup, oooo I love my Buttercup..... :D |
Glad you got it!
Jassz,
I am glad to see that you are going after the 300TD. It is a nice looking car. I did hear it run and the smoking was not extreme, IMHO. It did miss after start-up but continued to run. If you give what the owner was asking then you got a good deal. Hey, it runs! Oilslick |
This is just getting unfair...she's stockpiling all the wagons!
;) If you ever have a wagon with a 3rd row seat that you don't need, I'd be happy to trade...I'm getting to a point where I'm going to need the extra seating capacity for my Scout unit...either that or I'm gonna start having ot beg someone to donate a 15 passenger van :p |
jassz...
AWESOME! Considering what I paid that's an awesome deal! The mileage doesn't mean a thing and if the trans is new, all you really have to deal with is the motor --- and I think you've got that covered. :) I love the color! ;) |

Gottadiesel, oilslick... yes I think it was a good price for the car. But, it's a long bloody way to have the thing shipped, so that's where the cost will add up. I expect it to cost about $1700C to send it on the train. Still worth it, I hope, since I can't find similiar here. So 'to the driveway' prices are not much different GottaDiesel! When are you expecting Lovey, btw? Here's a pic of that AC switch I mentioned. Natalie |

Just food for thought :) |
?????
If the AC blows fuses, it may be that the aux fan is stuck/broken and /or you need a new climate control relay (under the front passenger side dash)
|
The switch is pretty funny... the rest of the inside in that shot looks pretty great!. Give Dependable Auto Shippers a call to truck it to you. So far they've been the cheapest I found (and used) -- I got Lovey shipped from Florida to New Jersey, Door to Door for $550.00. Even the peach pie dealer said that was an awesome deal...
Lovey should be here early this week. :) |
recoupe ur cost..... use WVO
Star running those sweet MB's on WVO or biodiesel. Im partial to WVO and the MB diesel's love the stuff.

"the AC blows fuses,"
Natalie If the AC is blowing #8 or maybe #10 fuse (blower motor) it could be you need the upgraded fuse and holder. If the fuse block is burnt at #8 or #10 thats might be the problem. Looks like a very nice ride:) |
Have you looked into one of the furniture moving companies to ship it? I believe Allied Van Lines and folks like that actually will put a car in the box and move it. Costs a bit more to move than Grandma's old table, but still might be cheaper.
Oh, and regarding fuses blowing for the climate control, Be sure to look for the shorted transmission kick down wire under the car. Uses the same fuse as the climate control and only blows when you floor the pedal. Of course we never have to do that with our diesels. Symtom is that suddenly you have heat/defrost because the system has gone into failsafe. Drove without kickdown for weeks until I found that bad wire. |

Piano moving is very expensive. A) it needs to be inside B) getting it in and out of the home is a major PITA C) You have to worry about alot of things with pianos (shock/moisture, etc...)
*not* like moving a dresser or something. DAS is, from what I can see, the best out there. Once I have the car sitting in my driveway, I'll let you know all about it. So far they've done everything they said they would for the $550 if anyone wants my reps name and extension, just let me know. I *can* tell you, NOT to bother with their online quote -- it gave me some crazy amount like $1040 or some crap. That is if you want enclosed moving. GL, GD |

Thanks for the tips on AC, we'll figure it out when it gets here, I guess. :D |
Huh? No way rail is cheaper.
I just called my guy, and without knowing all the zip codes, etc. If you DO NOT want door to door service (i.e. pick it up @ terminal) it is around $600. I did from NJ to Beverly hills and it was $594.00 (that's depot to depot). Let me know if you need my help. GD |
