I've have taken the advice of many in this thread and just drive my 300D hard like I would any gas powered car and I found that this car is a lot faster than I though it could be. I also have a noise issue with the engine that I can't figure out so maybe this will speed up the failure of what ever is causing the noise so I can once and for all find the source of the problem. There are so many things that can be causing the noise that trying to replace them one by one until I find it might cost more than one good failure. The only drawback to this is if I end up breaking something that wasn't originally at fault for my noise or even worse I end up with a truly catastrophic failure. What the heck, I don't have much to lose. I have other cars.

DslBnz-

You have inspired me to pick up a digital camera in the near future. Yes, its time to join the digital age.

Any more videos?

Mike

PS- wow. 139? I always read that territory was reserved for the 8 cylinders.

Sheesh, this is the third time of "Prepost Post." I wonder what is causing it here, I have not seen it happen to anyone else!

Got up to 4800rpm (100?) on the interstate for 10 minutes without passing 105*c. I would have gone longer but I ran out of good non-city road. When I pulled into a station to cool down it had a LOT of gray smoke at high idle (1000rpm). It might have been seepage from my smokescreen line, but I could not tell. After a few minutes of slow driving, everything is back to "normal."

Anyway, I can finaly join the 100mph club

BTW, would snipping off the 85mph peg on my speedo to let it go higher cause any harm?

Since I acquired my car at 225K miles, I don't know what MB has been doing to it. Or what the original owner requested of it. Regardless, it has brilliant service records. Always serviced by the dealer on time.

About my car being stock. As far as I can tell, it is. It looks just like every other OM603 engined car I have seen. Of course, I'm not the original owner, so... Hey, it has been chugging along, no major problems, for 50K + miles. So I guess its OK. Original head too, but not original tranny.

Time to join the "Digital Age is right! Turbodiesel is the only one I know of who has posted videos of his(now Plantman's) diesel on this forum.
I've never seen a video of an E300 turbodiesel! Let's just see how fast those really are!

My next challenge is to take on an E55 Kompressor, LOL!:p :p

Please don't ask me how I took the shot of the speedometer.
But I will tell you, that at that speed the W126 felt very stable. Very low to the ground even. And it handled well. The engine(very suprisingly) was fairly quiet. No, really it was!

Well, I'm in the digital age, but have a lot of projects going at the moment. Will get to the E300 and the TDI videos as soon as I have time.

[QUOTE=82-300td]Where do you people get this kind of speed!?!?
I can't even get to 85 before I spot a police car somewhere!

I did get mine past 100mph once, almost reached the water redline but I got to 4400rpm.

BTW, when you all are crusing at/near/past 100mph, what does your temperature gauge reach or level off at? I can cruise at 65mph 95*c and 8psi boost and 75mph 105*c. and 13psi boost.[/QU

I live in Miami and when I travel Alligator Alley(I-75-4 lane divided) between Miami and Naples Fl (a distance I would guess of 90-100 miles) its pedal to the metal, between say from 11pm to 4 am or so--theres hardly any traffice and I never see a Cop. Last year one night on the "Alley"(around 2 am) a late model corvette shot past me like a bullet-was on my BMW 1100RT so I rolled the throttle to the max to see if I could catch his lights-few moments later I checked the speedo and I was climbing to 130mph, at that I backed her down--to 80mph and the corvette was never seen again-he was traveling at 150+mph. TOOooooo fast for me! Great place to max a MB Diesel out though without worry of the Gumball Guys(cops)

My car runs good around 65mph, but it loves running 80mph.

That's mine too. Loves 80. Sometimes I have to keep myself in check because it'll cruise there so smoothly that I don't even notice it.

It is a shame that some areas posess such wide roads with several lanes, not used for high speed travel.

In my area, however, I must take notice that most people, I believe, could never handle such speeds. They are not responsible enough to understand the danger.

I have given up my speeding ways and seldom travel near 80 mph. Perhaps I am losing my gall, or perhaps I am becoming wiser to the inconspiciously perched CHP's.

Thumbs up

You won't catch me over 70mph on the freeway unless I'm passing someone or on a test run, dealing with the gestapo here is a waste of my time and money.

FYI - the '84 I had was very nice at 65mph and noisy at 75mph.... went to 90mph only once... got there quick.

Highest I've ever gone in my SD was slightly off the 85 marking on my speedo when I was passing some lady in an audi A8 while heading up north, she looked over at me with quite an interesting expression I think I was at around 87-90ish.....and I had LOTS of pedal left.......these things move.....with my new tires (awesome goodyear assurance) they are 130mph rated, and Smooooth on the highway, no vibrations at all anymore since I got them....so it makes it way too easy to "accidentally" cruise at 80 In general however, I drive mine like I stole it, its just way more fun that way.
