What wrench size to drain fuel tank?
I know is silly question, but I need to drain my tank and clean or replace the filter in the fuel tank. Any help or advice appreciated. Used some algae killer and have been loading up the clear plastic filter (primary).

I have a 77 240d and the tank fuel filter was really hard to get at with a conventional wrench.
I got lucky in a local tool store and they had the wrench that was made for this purpose. It is much easier to use than regular wrenches but the trouble is that it is something you will seldom need. Still better and cheaper than paying the dealer to replace the filter. |

Thanks DGM.... what was the name of this wrench and can I get it at Sears? I was just going to get a 46mm socket but if this won't work I'd like to know.

I found this wrench in a specialty tool store. Don't know how he happened to have it because I doubt there is much call for them.
Sears did not have anything similar at the time. It resembles a very short (1 inch) heavy duty socket. The only markings on mine are "AST M 0035" and I cannot find a manufacturers name on it anywhere. Sorry I can't be more helpful. |
