Ebay - Caution With a Seller Named "Bigbabbo"!

I needed motor mounts and a new power antenna so I won an auction from a seller (bigbabbo) selling both parts who claimed they'd discount for multiple items.

Sent me an invoice. Paid with CASH in paypal (BIG mistake - ALWAYS use a credit card!). Then waited for parts hoping they'd get here before snow fell. They didn't. I emailed regarding status of the package. No response. Emailed again asking when they'd been shipped. No response. Emailed again stating that if I didn't hear from them I would file a complaint with ebay. No response.

Complaint filed with paypal asking for my $'s back. FOUR DAYS later, he sends a slug of emails, calling me everythign from a meathead to telling me he's going to have me kicked off ebay.

He THEN files a non-paying bidder on me (mind you, ebay has records of me paying with paypal on the auction pages!)

THEN he emails today saying that he had the shipment "cancelled" (the shipment that should have been in my hands two weeks or more ago) because I "cancelled" payment to him.

Those of you who know how paypal works, know that I can't "cancel" a cash payment. Paypal can refund me if they find in "my favor", but once the $'s are out of my account, I can't just "take it back". If they believe this guy that he shipped the parts, then I'm out $65 AND any parts!

All of this is verifiable and records of everything so far have been kept (paypal records, emails, auction info, etc.) for what good it'll do. Trying to get to someone who can actually DO anything at either ebay or paypal is literally like chasing a ghost.

So..., my STRONG suggestion is that everyone avoid this seller like the plague! You might get your parts, he has lots of feedback (lots of neg too though), but you also may send $100 away and never see it again.

What is it with MB parts people these days? Two bad finiancial dealings in one month. Maybe the economy is affecting individual dealers now and their true colors are coming through? Maybe I should just give up on this POS and let stick with Jeeps?

He also goes by the name benzbaron. In his feedback, if you read it, said he is slow at e-mails and prefers phone calls. Both names have too much negative feedback for me. I always watch out for them and read those feedbacks!

This same seller has had about six sets of blue floor mats listed over the last few weeks. I know he sold most of them. Each time the description says he ordered for someone who did not pick up. Each time the minimum bid has been the same price I can order the same mats for from several places. Maybe one set were ordered and not picked up, but six sets? Why put that info in unless you are trying to mislead?

I've bought from this seller on a 4-5 occasions. While I've never had a 'bad' experience, I will say that they are inconsistent in how they conduct business.

For example, I bought two window gaskets that were listed on separate auctions. I asked if they would combine shipping ($13something each!!!) on the items. The reply...several days later...was 'no,' they were too heavy.

OK, I say, send 'em anyway. So, imagine my surprise a week or so later when I find a $13.00 credit on my PayPal account. Which BTW would cost me an additional fee to get back as a check.

Go figure!

IMHO, their prices aren't sufficiently inexpensive to warrant my continued patronage if they're going to be so weird about replying to e-mail and haphazard about policy.

just my .02

I believe he is the same dealer who shipped me ball joints. One had the protective plastic cover smashed to pieces and the other had the boot ripped. I didn't contest it but did note the name.

On the other hand, I may have the wrong dealer in mind as I tend to have the same memory symptoms as "Dory" in "Finding Nemo".

I just bought some front tie rods from benzbaron and one of the protective plastic covers was also smashed to pieces.

Well..., thanks for all the comiseration all, in truth, I wish there wasn't any from you and no one else had shoddy deals with the guy, but.....

Since this seems to be this guys MO, there should be something done about it, besides just leaving bad feedback.

The guy is not quite "there" in the honesty side of things. Especially since he cancelled the items in shipment (truly don't think he shipped them in the first place) AND has my paypal payment. This is all admitted on his part and documented. This amounts to nothing other than outright fraud and there just seems like something more that can be done about it to save others from being stiffed for $65?

Tom,
As a result of these most recent postings, I won't be considering any future business with the fellow. Plus, this isn't the first time he's been mentioned here so I suspect he'll get his 'comeuppance' with little or any effort on on our part.

If you have slipshod practices and don't engender trust you loose customers....and, you can't stay in business without customers.

Very Darwinian.

Guys - I gotta ask - if these are new parts, WHY the hell are you buying from some dipweed on eBay? Either get your stuff from FastLane (forum sponsor) or Rusty (800-741-5252), both of which are reputable businesses with very little (if any) negative feedback. Rusty's eBay feedback is 1500+ positive, one neutral, and ZERO negative. And he'll beat any price you can find.

Now for USED parts, well that's a different story...

I have bought from him (under both name) a number of times in the past with no problems.
That being said, I doubt if I'll push my luck any further.
Thanks for the warning.

My experience has been the same as BigMikeT57, no problem with things I have ordered from both accounts. However, again, my sentiments are the same regarding future orders!

I use MercedesShop exclusively

I have heard of this guy's tactics on other boards and would never buy from him just based on his feedback. I have been using Ebay for various parts over the past 4 years, but I have found that I have had much better results with no hassle dealing with Philip at Mercedesshop.com. You just can't beat the service.
