92 300D driveshaft damper

I have taken the driveshaft out to replace the flex discs. They were together but every hole had a rip (rubber).

I called to get a damper and the mercedes dealership said that a lot of people put in the driveshaft without the damper. It costs $148.00. This is a dealer item only.

I ordered one. I have learned not to play engineer.

Has anyone ever put a driveshaft without the damper? Another dealership said that the dirveshaft would shift hard and it may come off.

Thank you

Nick

Never tried it either...

I doubt it would effect shifting. And it probably the driveshaft would never run away. I'm guessing, as a dampener, you are comprimising ride quality. Noise and funny vibrations at certain speeds.
