Blown headgasket 85 300tdt

Just took my 85 wagon in for routine service, the shop noticed some coollant leaking from the back of the engine right at the head gasket. I was planning on doing valve stem seals, miles 210000, car never overheated and runs very well, in any event I am thinking that since the head must come off, about doing a top end rebuild, valves, guides etc. My question is has anyone done business with Metric Motors, in California, they advertise in the Star and seem like nice folks. Rebuilt head, new valves, guides, seals, machined etc for $750.00 exchanged but no prechambers. Price seems OK, any thoughts. Thanks
Ron

First,

I've always heard good things about Metric motors. But, I've never been big on exchanging my parts for some rebuilt abused parts. Assuming mine isn't damaged!!

If your car has been cared for reasonably, it shouldn't require much. Do you have a good machine shop in your town?? If so, I'd be suprised if you needed to replace valves. Guides might still be in spec if you take it apart and measure. It's ussually easiest to go by feel, first removing the oil with a solvent. Checking side by side movement.
I'd guess maybe $150 for a valve and seat grinding if the guides check out. Make sure the head is clean and flat- no cracks! Measure the stretch bolt lengths(they should be reuseable) and reassemble.
