'85 300D Turbo pin-hole
I noticed the top of my turbo was blackened...upon closer inspection..there is a small rectangular hole (0.1 X .025") on the very top of the area directly above the rotor. It makes no sound, but the exhaust leakage can be felt holding ones hand above it. Can these be welded, or should I look for another turbo?
Thanks

Hello,
I have an 85 300D cali model turbo available for 60 bucks if you should need it. It has 175k on it and still works as it should. Thanks, Adam |

Perhaps JB Weld will work?

If you are thinking about repairing the turbo using some sort of epoxy product such as JB-Weld, make sure that it can handle the sort of temperatures that the turbo creates.

Thanks Adam,
I may take you up on that. I thought I might try somehow clamping on a piece of gasket material from my wood burning stove as a temporary fix. I also have an '84 300TD which suddenly showed low on brake fluid on the same day I noticed the turbo leak! One of the rear calipers is leaking. Not good timing as I have a big Thanksgiving trip planned. It's the way it usually happens...everything goes wrong at once.

It a good thing you didn't find out about your brake problem while on your way to your Thanksgiving dinner. That's something you can be thankful about.
