Thanks Ohio MB. I don't know the official name of that color, but will look it up from the paint code number.

Thanks Brian for all your help and comments. Most of all, thanks for letting us know this car was available.

Got it home with no problems. It runs like a sewing machine. It is sure geared different than the 115 240D. I haven't had an opportunity to wind it up on the highway, but engine revs at 60 mph is a lot less than the 115. The 115 would be screaming at 60, this one is not wound up at all at 60. This one is happy in 3rd gear on city streets, where the 115 is happy in 4th.

This gonna be a cool car. Gotta go cut the grass first, then will look it all over more closely.

Paul, you ought to check it on the road by coming to Austin... Randy is GREEN. And you could drive my 240d ( also from Brian) to compare the gearing and Spunk ....
Will do a repeat of the Sweet Hot Pickles if you do....

We had a '92 Camry SE V6 up until about a year and half ago that we had bought new. It was my wife's car. It was the biggest POS we had ever owned, worse than the Ford Escort that it replaced. It had 66K miles on it when we go rid of it. True it didn't rattle or squeak ever but all the plastic was breaking or cracking. It had numerous mystery electrical shorts. It could not be aligned, the engine had bad lifters, it would stall for no reason at times and it was starting to make weird noises from the transaxle. There was always the bad smell of something burning coming from the car after a long drive. It had headlights that would not hold alignment either because of the cheap plastic pins and crap that were used. The window regulators had broken numerous times due to a little .10 piece of plastic that you could not buy, you had to buy the whole regulator at nearly $300! Good thing baling wire is a good fix for those regulators. All this crap for $19,500 new! Never again! I did all the required maintenance and then some and it was a big let down. I wanted to get rid of it long time ago but my wife wouldn't let me because she said it was still drivable but finally the transaxle noises helped convince her.

Greg

Somebody from Austin called the dealer and asked about the car (about 6 hours to late, Hee Hee). Had to be somebody on Mercedesshop, nobody else knew about it.

I get to Austin once in a while. I will look Y'all up next trip (mini GTG). It will probably be after New Years before I have time to go through it and check everything over. Found a couple things that need to be fixed before the first road trip, belts being the main thing.

Tomorrow I will spend some time with it and see if I can figure out how everything works. The heating and cooling controls are different, and, it seems the owners manual is written in some furrin language.

I am sooooo glad I own my two MBZ. I was within about two days from buying a Camry to replace SWMBO's Explorer Sport when I happened to see a cherry 240D driving down the street here in downtown Waterloo.

I did a little research and informed SWMBO that a 20 year old diesel Mercedes generated LESS polution than her '97 Explorer and we'd have no debt service on them either!!

The rest is history and I don't regret a minute of it either.

I'll translate that manual für you.

I'll translate that manual...just put it in the car, drive down here and drop it off (with the car...).

I'll take care of the rest.

They tell me that my older 240D would be a big hit on the Guadelupe drag. The color (officially known as English Red) is basically the same as UT Orange.

Palangi, that manual is written in German. Never lose it, as it is a valuable addition to that car.

OK, as promised, here are the photos of Palangi picking up my baby:

By request, the passing of the speedometer.

Paul, that will be good... give me a hollar a week or so before... the pickles need about that much time to ' cure'....

Greg

Did you do a search on: passing of the speedometer ?

(Hint, look on the second page of this thread).

Brian Thanks for posting the pictures. This Euro is certainly a cool car. Pictures can't really do it justice.
