I bought a right front bearing kit from Phil this past summer for the SDL. 5k miles later and its still fine, packed it with Mobil 1 grease and tightened it.

Since I'm certian the rears are original I'll get the kits from Phil to do those this winter. I'm just waiting for one to fail, 270k+ miles is a lot to ask from a wheel bearing and grease.

well 270 might be a lot of miles on the bearings, but I have 342 on the MB, and just shy of 450 on the rear end on my old Datsun PU. that is 27 yrs and a lot of heavy loads it has hauled. but I will admit replacing them is the next to do on my list as soon as I get the front end back together this week.

I've got it, Tangofox. Thank you. I finally got my shop manual cd working and I can now see how different the front and rear hub assemblies are.
