W123 heat core replacement. Who has had to do one?

Just a quick question to find out how many W123 owners have HAD to replace the heater core in their W123. I here that you "never" have to replace it. I have the box out and if I find that I have been missinformed I may replace it while the AC box is out of the car.

Well this is a good sign. So far 21 readers have not replaced or heard of a heater box being replaced. ( or bothered to tell me!!!!)
Please let me know if you have heard of the 123 heater box replacement.

I recall a thread where somebody had to do it on a 190, but don't recall ever hearing of it on a 123.

wait a minute now

If it were me and the box was open you can bet I would not put it back together with the original 15+ year old heater core. I imagine the core itself is relatively inexpensive in relation to the manual labor involved in replacing it.

i replaced the a/c evaporator in a 82 300d (123) last summer, i went ahead and replaced the heater core too. such a labor intensive job!! if you have the box out, and your going to keep that car for several more years, id replace it now!!!! good luck

w123 AC evaporator replacement

Does anybody have the directions on how to replace the AC evaporator core? Also for a 1977 there are listed two housings. How can I tell which one I have?

Thanks

About a year ago - I had coolant leaking from heater core down inside car on passenger side. I blocked off coolant from engine to core to solve it. Now I am faced with having to replace all components of ac system (evaporator) someone put R-22 (traces of) into system)- while I am in there I might as well do the heater core too.

Heater core replacement

I've done it and the problem is obviously removing the dash. The there are the tedious to remove screws holding the tubing connections but it's not all that difficult.

Actually, I didn't replace the core as it was leaking around the upper seal and I removed it, took it to my radiator shop where they recrimped it and then pressure tested it, whereupon it passed and I then reinstalled the original core works fine. Can't beat those older MBZs!!!
