What should I pay for a 1985 300CD?

The car has about 250,000 miles and is in good mechanical condition (well maintained, tranny shifts smoothly, good suspension). The interior is a bit rougher (cracked dash, peeling door pannels, leaky windshield seals, rear window separating). I'm trying to get a rough estimate. the owner is asking $4300.

Thanks

My Opinion

IMHO, that's too much. As long as its running as good as you say it is that's a big plus. However, the interior problems would be rather expensive to get fixed if they will be a main priority. When you say the rear window are you talking about the rear windshield or the rear quarter windows? I assume you're talking about the rear windshield. How exactly is the rear window separating, is it bad enough that you will have to replace the whole window or just put it back in place? I'm saying this because if you have to replace it they're pretty expensive, I believe around $1000 or just a little bit less, this is of course new, you can also find a used one but it will be a little harder to find one since this is a Coupe. Windshield seals (according to performance product magazine) are about $72 for the front and $99 for the rear. Other companies might be lower or higher, try looking on fastlane just to get an idea. The door panels I have no idea on, whether or not they can be glued somehow so they won't peel anymore or have to be replaced completely. Is there any way you can get pictures of the car and its problems? I don't believe you can do anything to the cracked dash except replace it, other members on the forum might have cheaper ways to fix it up, but replacing the dash will cost a "pretty penny." Unless you don't mind putting a dash mat/coverlay dash on it, that's always an option also. The prices I mentioned could be higher than what you can fix them for or lower, I'm just giving an approximation. I purchased my 1985 300CD a little over a year ago for $5,200 with 93,000 miles. Crack free dash, perfect door panels, perfect mechanical condition, and seals (except for the window seals, mostly the driver side because it had about a inch gap in it, and cost $384 to replace). That and the paint fading on the top surfaces were the only negative things we found on the car, and believe that $5200 was a pretty fair price for a well maintained car. Anybody else out their that can offer any help/corrections for what I've mentioned here? Hope this gives you an idea..

There is a 83 300CD here locally for sale for $1995. It has 245K and is in VGC. I would buy it, but I want a 300SD or some other S-Class sedan. I have seen them priced as high as $6000 around here though in excellent condition. Good luck.
