the front seats in my 82 240d are sagging 'outwards' towards the direction of the doors. is this normal? can i fix it somehow?

Use pool noodles. Take the seat out and remove the seat back. Remove the seat cover from the seat base. Use a chunk of one of those kiddo pool noodles and jam it in between the springs on the side of the frame that is sagging. Now would be a good time to replace the seat pad...use an OEM 'horsehair' or fab one from upholstery foam. Alternatively, you could replace the seat base with a new one.

There's a reason for that: the only difference between the Haynes manual and Charmin is that the Charmin is perforated and stored on a handy cardboard tube.
