Has anyone ever tried to steal your diesel?
Warning: the posts are out of order on this thread!
Tell me where in the "sunny south" you are and I might be tempted!  Actually, the steering lock on our cars is very robust, so you have nothing to worry about. The only concern would be somebody stealing stuff out of the car. If the seats are in good shape, then you'd need to worry about other W123 owners - 4 bolts and they're out!

As Rick said, the posts are out of order; mine should be after Ricks but also after robsod's...
Someone tried to steal my old van once, I believe. I walked back to the van from my old job and found the driver's door unlocked with the window rolled down partway, and my backpack had been stolen and there were some electrical bits on the floorboard in front of the driver's seat, like someone was trying to hotwire it and got spooked and ran away with what they had. That's actually the only attempted theft that I've had done to me, and no one's actually succeeded. However, both of my parents were raised in L.A., so I learned to lock doors and make sure everything was secure at a very young age.

Has anyone ever tried to steal your diesel?
I was just wondering this since i seldom ever lock my car. I figured no theif would want a 21 year old diesel. Just curious.

Considering how much some people pay on ebay for a 21 year old car,noting should surprise you. For someone wanting to make a quick buck (for drugs) these are the ideal victims. Never say never. Louis.

I think an old diesel Benz would be on the bottom of most car theives "wish list" unless it was the last car in town.

I'd be glad if someone stole my 300D....wait a minute....I need to get theft coverage first.
That way I'd be rid of that POS but I would look for a better one to replace it.

My car was broken into last Sunday night. Then, this morning I went out to start it, which I did, then I went to lock it with an extra key I have and the key would only go in half way. I have come to the conclusion that this must have just happened THIS Sunday. So I guess they put something n the lock hole and it broke off. Last Sunday though, when someone did get in they broke out the RR quarter glass and stole my CD player along with about $4.00 in quarters from the middle tray. I have not had a happy week. The day before it was originally broken into, I got rear-ended. Man, this past two weeks have sucked for me.

Someone stole half a tank of fuel from my 115 240D while I was at the denist one time .I hope they put it in a gasoline car..........

I went for three years having no ignition lock. These things seem to give out on a 123. I’ve been through three ignition locks in the 15 years I've own Liesel. I finally leaned to replace them myself.
Like I said, I drove around for 3 years using flat-head screw driver to start my car. I actually had a small screw-driver on my key chain. (The original door-lock key has never failed). Had allot of fun telling everybody that the valet key was Phillips-head. True story! Too old to steal. Yet, another attraction of owning a 123.

People will steal anything..
My wife had a yard sale once and caught a lady digging up her flowers, go figure..

Car thief question: MB is always fairly high on thief wish list; even diesel MB. I have lost cars to theft, never the one you expect. Last study I read said the thief would get about $1000.00-$3000.00 USD per MB diesel. They only want it for parts or third world export; in China your old beater (or nice car) is still worth $$$$$.$$ in the bank.. I have added an air feed/bleed valve to the fuel suction line of several diesel MB over the years, great security device. I know that two where stolen and died within a block; because they where sucking air, not fuel, the thief abandoned the car in both cases. E-mail me if you would like to know how to install an air feed/bleed valve to the fuel suction line of your diesel MB, as a security device.
