change in terminology???

Are computer terms offensive?

‘Master’ and ‘slave’ on labels is unacceptable, officials say

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 25 — Los Angeles officials have asked that manufacturers, suppliers and contractors stop using the terms “master” and “slave” on computer equipment, saying such terms are unacceptable and offensive.

could this result in changes here on this forum? i do have a 240d manual transmission model. the clutch activating cylinders are my concern. slow day thought. thank you.

Are "master" and "slave" terms that are used to describe parts or functions on automobiles?

Re: change in terminology???

The new politically correct terms are "boss cylinder and equal opportunity cylinder".

Please include the phrase: "Overbearing and intrusive government meddling" as unacceptable and offensive too.

I fully expect that someday the PC Nazis will surround my shop, batter down the door, arrest me and confiscate all of my MBZ technical documentation because of it's repeated and unabashed use of the word "jig."

What nonsense.

yes, when working on a mercedes, 'it' is the master and 'you' are the slave and don't ever forget it.

If "master" and "slave" are unacceptable terms to the "Los Angeles Officials" than I can only suggest they stop using computers until they can build there own “PC.”

They could call it the “Politically Correct” electronic operating device. By law they may be required to place a disclaimer in bold print that would read: “Any derogatory thoughts, statements with overtones, colorful expletives, sensitive comments, off color jokes, or words spoken from the list below, that are allowed to penetrate the unmarked karma field around the unit (the sensitivity of this unmarked field will vary from machine to machine) will render it inoperable for a period of time. The period of time the device would stop functioning will be determined by the device itself depending on the severity that it feels it was offended!”

The new “Politically Correct” device could have the internal devices labeled “Boss” and “Worker” or “Chief” and, no wait, that term belongs to Indians, scratch it from the list. How about “D(device) Major” and “D(device) Minor” that way it could keep in perfect harmony with itself!
