Run in with a trench
 

Hello everyone, I'm pretty new to this forum and I've got a question. A while back I hit a nasty dip in my 87 300D that I didn't know was there due to the optical illusion the road had (and the sign was covered by a tree's limb). The end result was a cracked oil pan, scraped the arm that the radiator sits on, and caused couple of nasty looking scrapes on the underside (this was the short term damage). After I got the oil pan patched up, the car wasn't acting normal when I braked. Whenever I have to brake a litlte harder than normal, I heard a scraping sound. At first I wasn't sure what it is but then found out the hard way. While performing a panic brake, I heard a "clunk" sound in the front. The "clunk" was the fan cutting into the radiator. This happened to be right outside my driveway so I limped it onto the driveway and shut it off immediately. My question is, what can cause the fan to hit the radiator? I've taken it to a independent mechanic (happens to be my friend's dad) and he says its the transmission mount. Could it be the arm that the radiator sits on? Is there a possibility that it was bent up a little? I'm a little paranoiid to drive since I would be chewing through raidators like no tomorrow every time i have to do a panic brake.

Hey 300SDLLLL, thanks for the reply, he's seen the engine mounts on my car while repairing the oil pan, he said they are still relatively new and aren't damaged from the incident.
