Stiff Accelerator Pedal

My accelerator pedal is very stiff. Is there an adjustment or spring that can be adjusted to make it a little less firm to push? Its an 85 300D.

thanx

Inspect the begining of the throttle linkage in the engine compartment. Sometimes the ball on which the linkage moves becomes brittle with age and do not function as they should.

This part is screwed on to the firewall directly infront of the driver side, kindof behind the IP. U would need to unscrew ( 2 screws, I believe it is an 8mm socket) the part to inspect the ball that is behind a triangular plate ( about 3 inches long - 2 inches high ).

Trace it on from there.

Isn't that the normal top speed? :D

First, did the issue creep up or was it there all along?

If it was there all along or present after some work on the car, then I suggest you re-do all the linkage. When I say re-do I mean check each for proper movement (both smoothness and correct distance of pull) and proper length for each linkage component.

Same trouble here... I feel like I need to put 50 lbs of force on the pedal sometimes when going along to get it and keep it at the position I need for highway cruising. I have checked the connections at the firewall, cleaned out all the linkage connections and relubed them with ATF, and have had no success...

When I changed the vacuum valves on the valvecover, I noted that the part that turns to actuate the valves must have some sort of pivot, and there is no indication that it has ever been serviced. I have to wonder if it could make the movement harder...

Has anyone tried fixing/lubing that?

Not too long ago I took some white grease and lubed every joint and pivot in the linkage and it seemed to help somewhat. There may be something on the IP itself that may need to be lubed but I haven't really looked at it too closely.
