83 300D Trans issue - Help please

The transmission does not shift from first until high RPM and when it does it skips 2nd and goes to 3rd.

I checked the vacuum to the modulator and it holds and loosened up the downshift cable. I also manually checked the downshift switch at the accelerator to see if it was stuck down. All to no avail as it continues to have the same issues.

Any one have any ideas?

Thanks
Don

Do you have any other vacuum related issues with the car?

If the modulator is good and holds a vacuum, then it is either your vacuum source or the lines going to it, in my opinion.

I can't remember, does yours have the vacuum block/switch-over on top of the valve cover like a 240D? If so, check the tiny valves, they often fail.

Keep us posted,

Haasman

Thanks for the reply.

I am trying to first determine if I might be dealing with something mechanical inside the transmission, like the valve body. Is it is something minor then I can relax about it and find the problem.

This is not my car, but trying to help an uncle out who is ill and needs to get rid of the car and a friend who just wreaked his diesel and needs one. I offered to get it running for them both.

Sorry....

Yes it has the switches ontop of the valve cover as well as a vacuum leak valve that mounted on the IP.

Thanks again
