It sure does. Looks can be deceiving. Sit in both and you'll see.

To beat gsxr to the punch - you like adjusting valves, eh?

To the point, the SWB 126 has a couple inches more rear seat legroom than the 123 and the 126 also has a wider rear seat.

Actually 5.5 inches more legroom. This increase in length is apparent in the door. Because they do not try to hide their size, the LWB models look massive.

The W220 is

S600
Length: 203.1 in. Width: 73 in.
Height: 57.2 in. Wheel Base: 121.5 in.
Curb Weight: 4610 lbs.

FYI my SDL is still on the original head, and is running stronger then ever. No problems here, as long as its not overheated.

The W126 is an overall better vehicle for loading up a family of 4 and eating up the miles.

I wonder how hard it'd be to get an OM617 into an LWB 126... *gears grinding*

and I prefer adjusting valves to pulling cylinder heads :p

You could easily put a 617 engine in a "L" body 126. The only difference is the drive shaft.

I was always under the impression that the '86 SDL was just a Diesel engine and drive train in a 560 "L" body for the same year.

No problems here either with heads. Had it since new. Climate control sucks though.

LWB ???? What's that ?

What's wrong with the climate control on the SDL?

The climate control on my '89 190E was ok, but the '86 190D would have huge temperature swings unless pegged past the detents on the temperature wheel.

Oh...IMHO, I think the Climate control problems are systemic problems on a lot of MBZ's of that era in general, not just with the SDL.

I just think it's a way over complicated design in an effort to be totally auto-controlled. Electro-mechanical-temperature-vacume controlled POS. Just try an trouble-shoot it sometime.

Other than that, again IMHO, the SDL (my '86) has been an extremely reliable car. Haven't had any of the horror happenings as of yet.

And, oh yeah----just to stay on topic, --- still a lot of room in the back seat. So they tell me, as I seldom ever ride back there.

My climate control is always posessed.

Sometimes it blows on high, sometimes never, sometimes completely automatic. The only way I can control it, is to dial the wheel to 72 degrees. That's the only control I have over it!

Compressor doesn't catch anymore so no AC.

However, I don't care...I love the car too much. And its so much fun to see the look on people's faces when they see an MB diesel pass them at a buck-forty. FWOOOSH!:p :p
