Instrament cluster lights -as in none
I have a 84 300d that is a real beater. Between the rust and the POs butcher repairs this car has tarnished some of my love for the star. Till I find another, in good shape and loved by PO, I would like to atleast keep this beast alive.
Question I have is about the lights for the instrament cluster. I do not have any. I stopped a fellow MB owner and asked if I could follow his wiring, as stated PO was a butcher with repairs. He stated that his 300d did not have lights either. Any ideas on where to check for a break in the electric flow. I do have electric to other areas of the instrament cluster but not to the bulbs for illumination. Thanks in advance John Conway:confused:   |
Hi John.
The dash light dimmer is most likely shot.(potentiometer) Little black knob on the left side of the instrument cluster. Right side is trip reset. Louis. |
John
Louis is probably right. You have to pull (or push) the instrument cluster out (do a search) and most folks solder a "jumper" across the back of the potentiometer. The lights will not be overly bright so adjustment is not a problem. |
Do you mean the lights for the instruments themselves, or including the warning lights? There are only 2 lights for the instruments themselves. They are located at the top, about 5 inches apart.

cheap
cheap and easy fix...
remove the instrument cluster (easy). then locate the white plastic dimmer device and solder the two leads together. this will make it work. of course the dimmer control will stay on bright forever but who cares. cheap and easy. |
thanks everybody- have the same problem, now know where to look! This board rocks...

Thank you I'll find a soldering iron
