Removing the turbo
my search was fruitless, and I found a mini-step-by step writeup of what is involved.
I would appreciate if someone could eplain how to remove a turbo from a 617 engine. It looks more or less straightforward, but Id like to know what to watch out for, what might break/strip/shear off, and any hints or tips that I could use. While I have the turbo off, is there anything I should do with it? It makes 8-9 pounds of boost, so its working fine, I guess... Thanks in advance, JMH |
If it were me I would bump that boost up to around 12 psi MAX while it is off.
Replace all the seals/o-rings around it while it is off. Personally, I always just remove the intake/exh manifold and clean them up good while doing this job. You will probably find the intake pretty full of carbon/oil deposits. The fasteners that attach the back of the turbo area to the manifold are the biggest pia issues - oh yea and that bottom fasteners on the air cleaner support. |
