i have noticed some oil leaking from both the oil filler cap and the seperator hose going to the air cleaner....the hose is clamped with what i assume is the original spring clamp,and the filler cap seems like its on tight and sealing....in the course of 2 or 3 days the oil has leaked out over the whole valve cover....what can i do to stop this???

I'm sure other folks carry it, I just don't know the real part number, but there is a rubber revised valve cover breather tube that goes to your air assembly - I know **************.com carries it. It reduces leaks. Kinda flat rubber rather than a hard tube. I use a zip tie at the air filter side and a worm like clamp (not spring) on the valve cover side - no leaks

Do you have an original metal oil filler cap? (which by the way I think is the same as the gas cap - take a look

)

Anyway, I switched to a newer black plastic one by MB that does not leak. Not sure why, maybe it just makes a better seal.

I have the same problem with leaky oilfiller cap...I purchased the new plastic one..this reduced the oil spill but I still get it I dont know what's going on!

hmm,well maybe im just SOL then....i already have the flat oil seperator hose,as well as the plastic oil filler cap...

i may try putting a screw clamp on the hose part,and maybe pick up a new filler cap...i need to go somewhere and pick up some fuses anyway,i guess ill go to a dealer nearby...

Is the breather hose completely intact?

I've got a similar issue on my car, and it's due to bad air cleaner mounts. The bad mounts allow the air cleaner housing to move all over the place, stressing the breather hose to the point where the hose split near where it gits onto the valve cover.

I've got the newer style "flat" hose, and I had actually replaced it last year...at this point, I figure there's no reason to fix it until I do whatever I'm going to do with the air cleaner (hopefully put in some form of ram-air)...

85, try swapping your oil filler and fuel filler caps. Sorry, can't help with the breather tube.

Try this simple fix for your oil cap. Remove the rubber gasket and turn it around. After years of being tightened down, the rubber has no doubt an impression in it from the valve cover. For the breather hose, try a new clamp like a heater hose clamp.

My simple fix:
Using a pair of worn out socks wrapped around the breather hose ends to catch the blowby oil. Change the socks every 3 to 6 months depending on the severity of the problem.

Your fix is not clear, should the pair of socks be laundered first or not? LOL

But really, an oil soaked rag does not belong on top of the air cleaner housing, don't you agree?

Blow-by tubing - Does anyone have a picture or a part number of the new "flat" version? What other MB model uses it?

kind of related to the blow-by and the air cleaner mounts, i've had
the same problem to the point that the vibration of the air cleaner
would work the oil separator out of the drain pipe underneath.
i've wondered if maybe that tends to keep things sloppy oil-wise
all the way back up the tube to the valve cover. it sure makes for
a nasty air filter. . .

BTW, i replaced all the cleaner mounts; everything was nice and
snug, and daggone if the mounting bracket didn't snap on the back mount the next time i was poking around in there. time to check out the motor mounts i guess.

had the same problem oil leaking out the fill cap, and so much that it got all over the air filter. i replaced the old oil drain pipe from the cyclone separator with a nice snug 3/4 inch fuel rubber hose. now i have a comlete crankcase ventilation system. and no oil leaks out of the oil cap or a stained air filter.

On my 1983 300D, I have the same problem. I have a new plastic cap and the flat hose. It still leaks.
I have felt along the flat hose and at one place I can feel something inside - maybe a baffle or maybe a restriction.
Is this normal? I took it off and flushed cleaner through and it seemed to flow readily out the other end. I have considered replacing the flat tube with a larger 3/4" PVC pipe.

Other ideas or fixes that have worked?

I was gonna say that after replacing the oil filler cap with a new one, mine stopped spewing oil out of the fill opening. There was no question that the old cap was worn.

Don't know about the breather hose.
