poll: how do you say diesel?

I have had a few different arguments with people about this, friendly of course, but I just wanted to see how others pronounce it.
Thanks
David

In German, the letter 's' is pronounced like we say 'z'. Phonetic spelling would be deezul.

BTW, the Diesel engine is named after its inventor, Rudolph Diesel. Which is why I always capitalize it.

To add to that, Mr. Diesel didn't want the engine to be named after him; that happened posthumously. He referred to it as the compression-ignition engine.

He also conceptualized a slow fuel injection process, and thus a slow burn. His engines were very low-powered for their size, and he steadfastly refused to try a fast injection/fast burn design. When that was tried (very shortly after his death), the people who did then came to realize just how much potential the compression-ignition engine had.

A little bit of semi-useless trivia for ya
