240d Dash Board Lights(pics)

I was wondering how to remove the dash lights(where the rear light switch, a/c knob, and rear defroster switch is) in my 1980 240D. The lights for the rear light switch,a/c knob, and rear defroster do not light up and I wanted to fix them(all the buttons work they just don't light up at night). If anyone knows how to replace the bulbs so they work please help. The rear defroster button only lights up when I turn it on when it's off it does not light up. Also, if anyone knows how to replace the dash bulbs underneath them that would be a huge help. I know how to take the knobs off and get those o-rings off but, I can't get that black knob(the one that directs the air up(towards the front defroster) or down(towards your feet) off because as you can see in the pictures I also need to change the bulbs so the whole dash lights up.

Here's some pics. to see what I am talking about:

On mine, I must remove the center section below that set and bush out from behind. Push out the buttons first and then take out the wood.

I think the knobs pull straight off, and there might be a nut behind each. Once those are off, the plastic trim piece will pop right off (pry carefully), and you can disconnect the AC controller. Behind it you'll see what looks like an octopus. At the head of the octopus is a bulb, and each "tentacle" is a fiber optic light channel that transmits light to the upper switches (which in your case aren't lighting up). Either the bulb is burnt out, or the tentacles came out of the switches.

Speedy thank you so much. I got as far as taking the 3 main knobs and nuts off. I can't get off the small black plastic knob which controls the air from going towards the windshield or your feet(floor). That's the one I can't get off. Is there a screw I can't see or is it glued or do you have to do something special to take that one off? If I can get that off than I could take the trim peiece off.

Here's a pic. of what I mean:
(This is not a picture of my car. I'm just showing you the knob I can't take off)

That little knob is a pull of type knob. If it won't come of fairly easily, you may want to get a paper clip and try to see if you can work the catch tab loose enough to help you pull it off. Do this carefully.
