W123 AMG Trim!!
Hi again all..
Anyone know of a place to get AMG trim for W123... I like the pic at http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/61903-look-my-latest-project-guys.html?highlight=W123+AMG Which Kyle Blackmore posted. I haven't seen anything like that before.. Or... how do I "dechrome" the stock chrome? The chrome on my car is fading badly and a matt-black would set-off the ice-ble paintwork very, very well IMHO. any ideas?! cheers >Joe |
Hi Joeywarren.
The AMG stuff is no longer for sale new. Sometimes it is offered on ebay used but not very often. There is plastic layer over the trim that needs to be removed first then you can use something like 1200 grit sand paper to ruff up the chrome. I forgot whether you need to use primer under the top coat. But if you use flatblack it's most likely primer anyway. Louis. |
Expert verification requested regarding wheels
In the last few months, I have acquired off EBay 7 of the genuine 5 spoke AMG wheels (3 chrome and 4 with white spokes, plus a pile of recycleable aluminum, the remains of the fourth chrome one) in size 15 X 7, ET 16, which were actually made by ATS, and all 8 of these have the spokes going all the way out to the bead seat rather than ending at the drop center as the ones on the car pictured in the earlier thread do. I had the impression that it was the Ronal R9 clones which had their spokes only go to the drop center, and this seemed verified to me by a search of old ads in my 1957-present collection of _Road and Track_, but perhaps there were some sizes to which this does not apply. Or did AMG get some sizes of their wheels made by ATS and others by Ronal? Does anyone out there have better evidence to cite?
