My first car was a '48 Lincoln Zephyr bought in '53. It had a flathead V-12 engine that was so smooth and quiet that you could not tell if the engine was running even sitting on the front fenders.
My first Benz was a 55 300C which I bought in '64. I became aware of Mercedes as a mechanic at a Studebaker dealership. Studebaker was the sole importer of Mercedes back in the late '50's and early '60's. I have had continual, uninterupted ownership of Mercedes cars since. Presently own '93 300SD 67,000 mi. '95 S350 116,000 mi. '99 S600 103,000 m i. |

First drive: 54/55 VW, tiny split rear window, funny roller gas pedal, knees tucked under chin.
First owned: 1961 Rambler Classic wagon. Back seats fold forward, front seats fold backwards. First nice car: 1967 Buick Skylark 4dr hardtop. I miss those pillarless hardtops. First Benz: 84SD in the signature below. Made me a convert to diesels and old MBs. Jerry |

1st car; '71 MGB, tan/black with wire wheels when I was in undergrad. I would describe this car as "nifty". Plagued with little problems and a lot of rot underneath. I drove it for about one year.
2nd car; '74 MGB-GT. Vastly superior driver than the "B". I modded it a bit, it handled good and ran great. Should have never sold it. I drove it for five years. 3rd car; '92 Ford Explorer. Does what its supposed to do. Always starts. Waiting for someone to plow into it while I'm driving. Depreciated down to nothing-not worth the trouble to sell it! 4th car; The MB. |

When I first started to drive I wanted a Mercedes Diesel (my whole family has one so I wanted one too, even at an early age of 14). But my parents didn't feel comfortable buyin' one for me and my brother (we would have to share a vehicle , but its better than not having one at all) at the time. So the first vehicle that they bought us that I drove was the 1992 GMC Sonoma Pickup. Nice truck, but coulda used a Diesel Engine..we've even thought about puttin' an engine from a 240 or 300 in it. But after driving that gas guzzlin' machine for about 8 months, we bought the 1985 300CD (which is the car I was wanting, I wanted something different from what the rest of the family had. My dad has a 1985 300D, my oldest brother has a 1987 300D, and my second oldest brother has a 1987 190D 2.5 Turbo) and I really wanted a 190D Turbo but they were so rare and we couldn't find one in relatively good condition; therefore, I next wanted the 300CD coupe, no sedan. We ventured from Newberry, Fl. to Marco Island, Fl. (south florida, west coast) for our car, a great find! But we should be in the market for another Mercedes Diesel because our schedule for next semester won't be the same, and there ain't no way I'm (or he's) drivin' the gas sucker truck. :p

My first car was a 1973 CJ-5 Jeep that my old man gave me. I have always regretted getting rid of it when I went off to college, but it was horrible on the road for long trips which I had to do a lot of.
My first diesel was a 1983 Nissan Maxima Diesel 6 cyl. It got 35 mpg and was incredibly reliable. I sold it with 210k on it running strong. I then got another Maxima diesel which lasted until I got a better paying job. Then got a BMW convertible and spent half my paycheck on it - what a mistake - great car but I was just all flash and no cash at that point in my life. Cya, Adam |

1. 1950 chevy 1 ton flatbed I got when I was 15 and rebuilt the motor on I can recall a many late nights working on that one, great truck. Stupidly traded it for a 75 ford with front end damage. 2. 54 Hudson Hornet (same first name as me) Awesome car, still have it and it is getting a camaro clip and 500 hp 396. 3. 75 Ford got screwed, pardon my french. Evil truck. Glad its gone even though I lost money. 4. 83 300sd, which I hated for awhile but we wont go into that here, bad mechanic, great car. 5. 89 honda acord, great little car.

Drove a 1997 Civic for a while. Got a 1982 300D when I was 16, was totalled by a lady that ran a red light. (I t-boned her). Shortly after, got myself a 1987 300D which I currently drive.

'69 MGB convertible. And that's how I became familiar with Lucus "Prince of Darkness".

The other three switch settings--SMOKE, SMOLDER and IGNITE. The original anti-theft devices--Lucas Electric products. "I've had a Lucas pacemaker for years and have never experienced any prob... If Lucas made guns, wars would not start either. Back in the '70s Lucas decided to diversify its product line and began manufacturing vacuum cleaners. It was the only product they offered which didn't suck. Why do the English drink warm beer? Lucas makes the refrigerators.
