The true antifreeze and coolant never fade (molarity), however the anticorrosion and lubricating packages added to it do.

I have a few gallons of this crap waiting to get rid of, my dad suggested killing some weeds in the driveway but the fact of polluting like that and the fact we have a well. I don't plan on drinking it no matter how much animals may like it, they also like decon.... I asked quite a few parts stores and they all just shrug their shoulders.

Most parts stores won't take it. But service places that do coolant changes have to have some facility to dispose of the old coolant. That's why I said Pep Boys - they do parts and service. They even advertise taking in old coolant.

If you want to check your coolant you can use a digital current tester on DC. Put the negative probe in the coolant/ put the positive to ground. 0.2 vdc accept, 0.5 marginal, 0.7 vdc dispose as per discussion. New to the site. Have had a cummins TD truck for years but just picked up a 95 E 300 D.

prb51,

Welcome to the board. Your E300 is a great car. Not much you can do to increase power, but there's plenty of possibilities if you want to improve the chassis, suspension, brakes, lighting, etc. Here's a nifty little book you might be interested in, it's the "service introduction" for that specific car:

1995 Mercedes E300 Diesel Intro to Svc Manual

Does anyone know if "intro to service manual" (W124 E300 Diesel) is available in the UK? Tech info is a bit scarce here. I already have the U.S. CD's.

Ok,,, lets thrash this out... there is a boneyard north of me that has a ' free antifreeze bring your own container' sign up....
I have like eight vehicles to winterize... so I was thinking about stopping by the place....
Mercedes specifies an anticorrosion/water pump lube for some vehicles...
Could this be added to this free antifreeze and be used for one season ?

I'd consider it for vehicles you don't care about much, and that DO NOT have aluminum heads (translation: OM60x engines). I think you can get an additive, or just use RedLine Water Wetter... but with the cost of that stuff, you might as well just go buy the cheapest anti-freeze you can find at Wal-Mart or something. If the engines will just be sitting and not run, you don't need to worry about the lubricants. EIGHT vehicles you say? Wow, and I thought I was bad...!

Antifreeze toxic

Antifreeze can be FATALLY TOXIC to dogs and cats. They do drink it. My wife is a vet.

Maybe that is why I never see the same dog or cat the second time ? I thought maybe I was just on a migration route.

I'm not much of a tree hugger ( I prefer the plants I can smoke ) but I have lost a dog to my mistake of leaving drained antifreeze in a pan he could get to. It's sweet tasting and takes out their kidneys.

You have to "winterize" things in central texas? I bet you get some bitter cold/ brutal snowstorms there, LOL.

Yes I think it is pretty well obvious that antifreeze is poisonous, all my stuff goes into closed containers pretty well immediately.

The main deal here is that we are totally unpredictable...we can have like a handful of 30 degree nights one year... and then spend two weeks without getting over 30 degrees the next.. that is only once in about 20 years... but you just can't wait until a blue norther is on the horizon to start changing fluids.... you would get stuck to the tractor and be found the next day... I usually describe our weather as having about 10 months of motorcycle riding weather per year....I spent three years in Germany and four in Cincinnati before I was 10... so I had all the cold I ever will ever need.

What do you not enjoy going outside when it is in single digits? Most people think I'm crazy to work when it is 20*F outside, but much lower and my tolerance of it is next to nothing. Tomorrow's high is 30 here, everything is froze solid. I would have never guessed texas would have got that cold, but I suppose a person could deal with it for a couple months of the year if need be.
