The Valvoline Quick Oil Change place near me takes antifreeze. So does the BP gas station that has service bays.

Don't quote me on this (for fear of incarceration for eco-tango suggestions/thought crime), but when I was doing a paper on water treatment (for a failed post grad deg - f**k it!), a guy at a plant that I was auditing said that they process a lot of Afreeze out of the water in the fall before they percolate it.

Most shops here won't touch it and most also suggest pouring it down drain or toilet (since that will go to post-treatment), but NOT the storm drains as that does not go to treatment.

Call your local health department to find out. I think most places don't allow you to pour it in any drain. In my town there's only one place that takes it and they charge about $2/gallon.

used liquids

I usually use old gallon orange juice containers (screw on cap) and leave my used fluids in a box plainly marked at my local oil change place's front door after hours.

I thought by law they had to take this stuff.... maybe I was wrong?

just don't forget to wipe your prints off the containers j/k

actually the local dump here takes motor oil and other 'hazardous'
materials like paint etc on special days usually 4 time per year.

If you have sewer systems that go to a treatment plant, like most good size cities, pour it down the toilet. NEVER pour it down a storm drain on the street, you might as well just murder a few thousand fish and birds. Those drains go to rivers, lakes, and oceans. Otherwise you need to call around. Some shops may take it, if not, your county will have a "Hazardous Materials Collection" center somewhere, you just need to locate it. It's usually free or cheap, they would rather you take it to them instead of dumping it on the ground.

BTW - thank you for disposing of this stuff properly! Too many people just don't care, which is very sad.

Oh yeah - don't pour into the toilet if you have a septic tank or a cesspool. Only if your toilets go into city sewage treatment plants. :p

you can always just recycle it yourself. When you drain it out just let it sit and all the solids settle on the bottom of the container and then you can pour it back in your system if it checks out with the tester for freezing point.

Nope - after a few years, the pH of the liquid changes and it must be replaced. You can't re-use it after filtering.
