Not Yet.
We just got about 5" of snow two days (On my only day's off this week ) ago and it's about 45*f for the high with more snow expected in the next few days.
I have all the parts, tools, ,ATF, new gasket, diagrams, and speedo cable I need to get it together. I just haven't had the time or workable weather to do it in. My garage is so full of cr@p that I can barely walk around let alone raise the car and crawl around the floor. I'm off work the 18th/19th, I will be cleaning and heating my garage and try it then. I WILL post running speedo pictures when I'm done. If I can pry the digital camera from my mom, I might even post a step-by-step. BTW, nice thread name |

I have started the swap. I have got the trans drained, trans mount removed and the three bolts holding the driveshaft to the flexdisc. At this point I'm stuck. The driveshaft won't slide back so I cant get to the 30mm center nut or the 6th bolt on the very top of the flexdisc.
Should it slide back or should I unbolt the center driveshaft support before the u-joint to angle it out of the disc? I can lift one of the rear wheels to rotate the driveline but I still can't get it to move back! I'm not trying to pry it back as I can't afford a new flexdisc if I damage this one. |

Drop the center support, it makes life much easier. Don't, however, pull the driveshaft apart!

I got the center support bolts out, AT LAST got the flex plate off, and to my suprise There was no 30mm nut there (601 in picture)!
It has a smooth metal "rod" coming out with what looks like a cover plate thats crimped in two spots. I don't want to just put everything back after going this far and I don't want to damage something, unless I have to. |

Dunno.
What does the end of your driveshaft look like? There should be a cylindrical center part that contains a bushing and grease seal. The bushing in the end of the driveshaft fits over the end of the output shaft. If you assemble the pieces it sent you, you'll see how it is supposed to fit together....the flange that the flex-disk bolts to fits over the output shaft, and the big nut (30mm) holds it all together. The 240 and 300 (w123s) manual and autos that I've been into all went together the same way...I'm surprised that the 126 is so different. I'll go out to the shop and take pics of the manual I have and of the end of the dead driveshaft I have as well. It will take me a minute or two...

Output shaft on manual transmission (looks virtually the same as the one on the autos I've messed with).

The first picture:
It looks like that, but, where the "rusted" part of the output shaft starts there is the flat soft metal part. It has three notches on the outer edge that the metal just bent when I tried to do anything to it (Pry it forward, spin it with the blade of a screwdriver, or pull on it). Could this just be a "tamper seal" like the ALDA has? Picture2: The grease seal is flaked away to the point it is jagged, dry, and crumbling. I've never had any tranny leaks at all. Should I worry about this? I will be going on a week-long trip to California for cristmas, so I can't try again until early January. But I WILL try again ASAP and get a picture of it. |
