240/300 Flywheel Swap

Can a 240D flywheel be rebalanced to a 300D's specs? Thanks.

In my research prior to my auto to stick swap in my 240d, the issue of engine balance came up a number of times. I did discover one source that I believed to be reliable, that stated that all MBZ engines built after 1977 had the engine and flywheel balanced separately. Therefore on the balance issue, if both engines were 1978 or later I would think the swap would work.

I may be wrong but I remember an article in "The Star" magazine with the introduction of the '82 models. It mentioned that the engines in the "Baby Benzes were the first Mercedes to have individually balanced engine components.

300d manual flywheels are rare in the US. A number of people on this forum have used a 240d flywheel when swapping a manual tranny into a 300d. No report of any problems.

There is a difference in the thickness between the two...so one might want to match up the clutch disc and plate to the flywheel.

Sorry for not explaining this well. S'plaining things is not my strong point.

Are the 240/300 motors balanced externally via the front dampner and the flywheel or internally?
I checked into this awhile back and "the forum" said to run a MT behind a 300 I'd need some exotic euro only flywheel from a basically non-existant old 300 motor that came with a MT trans?
I'm not worried about clutches I can measure a flywheel and figure what clutch fits but I don't just want to bolt a 240 flywheel to a 300 motor and have it shudder and shake and then just tear it apart again becuse the flywheel isn't balanced to the 300. I'd just as soon do it right the first time. I'm old and lazy.
Anyone ever done a MT to 300 swap without the "exotic euro 300" flywheel? Thanks.
