flex pipe replacement parts list

Hi,

Im going to pick up the parts to install a new flex pipe (header pipe). I dont know what exactly Ill need, so Im making a list. If it looks right, id appreciate knowing that, and if i am forgetting something, id reallly appreciate knowing what else Id need. All these things i found through the usual worldpac sites, like fastlane...
here it goes:

-Bosal header/down pipe
-exhaust seal ring (Ball type exhaust seal ring between exhaust manifold and header pipe)
-copper 8x12mm nuts
-muffler clamp (for the small flex tube attaching the pipe to the turbo)
-exhaust mounting kit (front pipe suspension)???

Is that what I need? Does the exhaust mounting kit contain the seal rings, etc that I need?
Any help/info would be really great.
Thanks,

JMH

You need to verify that the Bosal downpipe will correctly mate up with your existing exhaust system. I've had LOTS of problems over the years replacing pieces of exhaust systems - it seems that there is NO standardization of break points or connection schemes from different manufacturers of aftermarket exhaust systems.

In other words a Bosal header pipe may or may not connect up to the stock MB system.... And even if Bosal says it will there is no guarantee that your 25 year old car even HAS a stock exhaust system currently installed.

I had to install one here a few months ago, my car kept getting louder and I had to slam on the brakes for a traffic light. As I took off I heard something dragging, after I fixed that it ended up breaking in front in the flex section of it.

I believe the one I bought was a Bosal (fit perfectly) I overpaid a little bit, they can be bought for $114. I ended up reusing the seal ring to the turbo because they sent me the wrong one, I did however get a new seal ring for the other side where it meets the center muffler. I don't know why you need a muffler clamp though. Only pipe clamp in the system is on the other side of the flange, where the center muffler is. I don't recall what the mounting kit is for but I don't believe it is for the front mounting, just use some new locknuts there as well. They may be a larger size, I don't pay attention to that stuff I search the word nut and buy a half dozen of everything (you need a total of 7 nuts) just like light bulbs. Since you have to disconnect the pipe there I'd also recommend replacing the rubber donuts the rear muffler is on. I noticed mine were weak before and replaced them a couple weeks before the flange gave out. If it weren't for those new donuts I wouldn't have that exhaust system!

+ 4 muffler hangers
+ any size type nut you may need
+ center muffler- header pipe seal ring
- muffler clamp
- exhaust mounting kit

Edit- no exhaust leak a few months after installing it even while reusing the turbo-header pipe seal ring.

I have used Bosal several times on different cars and the fit has always been exact and the big plus is if you buy from Auto Zone there guarnteed for LIFE.

How much was it through AutoZone? If mine lasted 22 years on the original part unless I do something really wrong I have to get at least 10 years right? That warranty isn't worth much IMO.

Keep in mind that Bosal is not the same quality as MB original eguipment and also its a LOT cheaper so you may want that warranty from Autozone.

I was told by my parts guy that the one I bought was OE for several years, I was going to get the cheaper one but he said that the other was OE so I said go for it. :) Maybe mine isn't a Bosal, or maybe Bosal is the OE part.
