I want to remove the alarm.

I ran a couple of searches and found stuff about disconnecting an annoying alarm; but, I want to remove mine. It is installed on the front passenger side of the engine compartment. It has developed a really nasty rattle and I never use it so I'd like to just remove the whole thing. Maybe I can use the extra space for a preoiler.

Is there anything I have to worry about? If I remove this will it cause some circuitry problem?

If it is in the '84 300SD I would suggest disconnecting the alarm control module which is located underneath the front passenger side carpet.

What problem do Mercedes diesel engines suffer from that a preoiler will prevent?

engatwork: so that'll just do it? No circuitry elsewhere? I can just unbolt it and chuck it?

Marshall Booth: Probably nothing in normal conditions...but I'm the sort of person who always travels with a survival kit in the trunk. I also spend a lot of time in the winter in extreme temp. conditions. It occurred to me that adding a preoiler might increase the life of my engine even though I've got a block heater, battery heater, heated auxiliary fuel filter, fuel line and fuel tank.

I just sort of like the idea of it. And I'm trying to think of somehting to do with all that extra space I'll have when I chuck the alarm.;)
