Correct Position of Cam Lobe for Valve Adjustment?
 

I did the valves on my 71 220D this past weekend, and the car is running great. But now, having looked at Boostnbenz's website, I'm a bit unsure.

The MB service manual shows the cam lobe needs to be 180 degrees from the rocker, but the face of the rocker isn't perpendicular with the ground, so I turned the cam so basically the lobe "points" toward that bar at the top of the whole assembley (which I think is 180 from the rocker arm, but looks like about 45 from the ground). Boostnbenz's picutre and description says that the cam lobe should point directly up.

I can post the pic from the manual, which looks a lot more like how I did it.

Anybody know?

I did them pointing towards the bar that goes across on my 617. I believe thomaspin's DIY site (which I do have a problem with, because he stated an order for the valves which was different than for my car, and both his and mine are 617s) says to have them up and to the right. He says there is a wide range to the right in which itll be fine.

I like using the bar though, becuase this way all valves are measured with respect to a standard location for them to point, and plus I think thats why its there :confused: :cool:

The Factory SHop manual shows it at 180 degrees from the point it meets the rocker... but someone ought to put a dial indicator on it the next time they have it open ... I suspect there are several degrees of leeway without making any difference...
