My mechanic did something really stupid...
My mechanic was working on installing my injection pump, and test started the car. He had forgotten to re-install the oil filter housing and filter. The car started and leaked oil on to the ground for a period of time before he stopped it.
I dont know if he let it run for 10 seconds or a minute. Will this damage the internals of my motor? Specifically, I am wondering if oil drains from the main bearings into the filter, or if the pump draws from the filter for lubrication. I am very upset. Unfortunantaly, this mechanic is a real hole in the wall place, and I doubt he would ever offer to repair any damage he did, if he did any... What should I do?? |

I don't think so since I think the engine draws oil from the pan and circulates it through the filter in the end of the cycle.
In either case look for another mechanic.

Look in the ' why big rigs are'.... thread... I posted a picture of the oil pressure drawing from the shop manual...
but basically... at ten seconds.. you are probably ok... but change mechanics... just in case I needed to say that... LOLOLOLOL |

oil pressure drawings
Leathermang's oil pressure drawings posted are excellent. That should give everyone a good idea about the oil flow in their diesels.
