Are diesel fuel and #2 home heating oil the same?
Just an academic discussion mind you. My oil supplier says home heating oil is not suitable for use in an automotive diesel engine because the refiners put paraffin in it. He cited filter and injector probems in cold weather.
I was always under the impression that diesel fuel and #2 home heating oil where virtually the same except for the red dye. |

Pretty much identical, except that home heating oil will not usually be as clean, typically has a higher pour point (normally the tank is buried or inside, so it stays warmer), and the FUEL TAX ISN'T PAID.
Big fine ($2000 or so and up) if you get caught. And yes, the excise police have been know to stop diesels and check. Peter |
