fedex

By the way, was it trucked up from SoCal? It seems to have arrived very fast.

Good advice...

I will get this checked first...thank you.

Also, it helps to have a friend who owns a shipping company. I had the car on a truck ~6 hours after calling. The car arrived the next day.

I have the car with Mr Diesel who is going through the car (all fluids and filters-includiung tranny filter).

He is trying to get me to sell the car IF I am not certain I will drive it. I also have a beautiful 79300SD. When he set his eyes on my car, he immediatly felt it COULD be worth 5-6K to the RIGHT buyer. The TD market, he claims, is strong. After the fluid changed and shipping, I will be in the car for ~4,300.

He has driven the car a bunch and is amazed at the power. Also, his big issues is rust...after tons of looking, there is no rust! Car still has the metal plates in the glove box with first owners name and selling dealership (California). He also thinks that the remanufactures MBZengine, with only 36K, will add value to the car.

Who knows, I may post it. At this point, I am TOO excited to drive the car. I do not have the selling part in my blood..

Hope you all had a nice Xmas.

Wag-gone

Apparently you decided to put your '79 wagon up for sale via Mr. Diesel.

Too many cars or are you out hunting for more?

Good Luck.

acastell 01-24-2004 10:12 AM

The wagon is up for sale....

Too many cars...I purchased the wagon about 1 week after purchasing my 79SD (first and second Diesel)....I guess you could say I got a little carried away!

I had visions of converting my wife to the Wagon and I drive the SD! She just about fell on the floor laughing when I proposed the idea....oh well!

The wagon is great, but my 300SD is PERFECT!!!! So, the wagon is on the blocks. Basically trying to get out what I have into the car. I also need to pay John some as well for his efforts, of course!

My SD and I returned last week from great roundtrip to Newport Beach...I will do that again very shortly! I love driving my car...

WANT '71 280SEL 01-25-2004 09:39 AM

My uncle lives in Newport Beach. He is a Lexus guy, but admits Mercedes diesels are still better anyways. He lives on balboa Island, is the in Newport or just around it? Was the wagon much slower than the SD? From what I've heard, it seems the w116 SD's are FASTER than the w126's. or at least they seem that way.
Thanks
David

You DID get a great deal on that TD - especially since the motor only has 36 on a Mercedes replacement motor!
I didn't know you could get one brand new though, I simply thought rebuilt was all that was available.
Have fun with them, sounds like you made out!

The wagon...

My recent roadtrip in the SD was to Newport, more specifically a friends house on Balboa Island.

Yes, the wagon was a great buy...however, I have to part with it. I am looking to get out exactly what I put into it. Bought it for 3,800 and put about $250 into it (allignment, fluids, filters etc...). I hope to sell it for $4,400 to pay for Johns time. He is very flexible with his cost...a true Diesel afficianado!

The SD is faster. I now, in the short time I have been a 'diesel guy', have experience behind the wheel an early 80's D turbodiesel, a non diesel wagon and a 220D. All of them were noticably slower than my SD. The 300SD W116 is a rare bird when it comes to power.

Anyway, if you know anyone who wants a Ca Blue Plate, no rust '79 Wagon, let me know and I will forward you the link to Mr Diesel's site where he has the car listed.

The URL for those that asked...

The URL to the car is

http://home.comcast.net/~mr.diesel.info/79_300TD_Ivory.html

I had s email inquiries and figured I may as well post the URL. The price is now VERY low as I am ready to sell. Like I said, this car does not have a home and my house as far as my wife is concerned!

Now $3,400, down from $4,400!

Thanks for the replies and sorry for not getting back to you personally....I am not a good sales rep!

ebay-wagon GONE

Anthony, well done!

I actually called John a couple of times last week or so to see about looking the wagon over and get motivated for another purchase.

But the timing was off with schedules and then I got busy.
Oh well.

I wonder where your wagon will go from here (city, State) ??

acastell 02-12-2004 11:45 PM

Off to the Netherlands...

Thanks...the car is off to the Netherlands. It is with mixed emotion to send if to Europe. On the one hand, I am very glad eBay worked, on the other hand, I hate to deplete the stock of good cars in the US. Once the car goes to Europe, we will never see the car again stateside...one less rust free diesel in the US....oh well, this was a one time event, I am not a dealer.

Thanks again...

Make sure the funds are wired to your bank or that the check clears before you ship the car. There are a number of scams out there involving fake cashiers checks. The bank takes the check, you ship the car, and the check comes back a few days later as a fake.

BoostnBenz 02-13-2004 10:10 AM

Kind of along the same lines...

I've gotten a few emails of people from indonesia trying to get me to sell them some performance parts, I just ignored them. I don't know or really care how they pull it off but I hear that you don't want to ship anything over there unless they pay with real money, not just a credit card or check.

acastell 02-13-2004 12:14 PM

Good advice...

The buyer appears legit! He is wiring the funds to my bank on Monday. I told him that I will look into shipping. He said, no worried, wait for the funds to clear, then we can discuss shipping. He is filling up a crate that will not leave LA for a few weeks.

I will be careful anyhow!

Dutch auction

I wonder if a California car meets TUV standards in the Netherlands.
(At least in Germany it must pass TUV standards) .
Also what is curious, I thought that in Europe. cars from a certain age on down were not allowed to be used.

No doubt many european members have w123 vehicles, but nonetheless I am not clear on this law and standards.
Anybody know any interesting details??

acastell 02-13-2004 02:04 PM

1979 and older...

The laws change for cars 25 years and older. My buyer is searching for every 1979 car avail. Not sure of the detail, but he passed on the other TDs on ebay as they were 1980 and newer.
