Alternator

We are replacing an alternator for 1983. 300 TD. A wire came off connector to alternator and now am a bit confused.
The blue wire is on, one of the red ones is on, but the center red one is not on. when we go to splice it back how do i determine which red wire goes to which post?
any help would be very much appreciated.

It doesn't matter where the red two leads are connected to, they are connected together inside the alternator. These are the main battery output lines of the alternator.
