Injection pump leak

My injection pump on my 1983 240D has developed a leak right around the number one pump element. Fuel seeps out of the bottom of the #1 pump element. I took the element out and cleaned it, and i could not see any evidence of an O-ring. Should there be one? The others dont leak, and I don't know if they have rings or not.

Thanks guys

Yup, there is an 0-ring on there, but you have to look for it. It is squashed flat and rock hard, easy to miss. Take a pick of some sort and prod around part way up where the pressure valve holder fits into the hole, you will find it.

Peter

Isn't there also a small crush washer underneath the pressure valve carrier that can be replaced?

fisherman..."washer underneath the pressure valve" I think thats the copper one down at the bottem of the hole. I made a little hook on the end of a small welding rod to be able to get those little washers out, they were really stuck in there.

Yep, that's the one.
On my MW pump on the 300 I don't believe that it has an o-ring just this washer which seals the pump element.

sealing ring...

I tried to look this up in my parts catalog and all I get is the o-ring type of sealing ring.

Is this an m pump with pneumatic governor? If so it is the same pump as the one I am working on right now and yes, virginia it does use an o-ring...

Could be yours ripped apart or never got installed after the last timing project.

Does your delivery valve have a smooth area about 1/2 inch long right above the threads? if so this is where the o-ring fits.
