let me tell you that you had it right on the nose it ended up being that my alternator was over charging and it did explode my new battery. We have fixed the problem. We just finished installing a new alternator in the car this morning. Thanks for all the great help!!!!

great to hear you tracked down the problem - i had a battery explode on me this year - not a pretty sight

btw,
wonder if you could have just replaced the voltage regulator (about $25) instead of the entire alternator?
