How many RPM?

I'm just doing some checking...

on a 83 300 TD on a level road, traveling 80 MPH -- what RPM should I be turning. (approximate)

Thanks,
Pete

I don't have a working speedo due to my transmission differences, so as a general rule, I have figured the following-
45mph: 2000rpm
65mph: 3000rpm
75mph: 3500rpm
85mph: 4000rpm
95mph: 4500rpm
100mph: 5000rpm.

I don't know if any of these numbers are right. I have a few MB people saying 45mph is correct and I have been up to 5100rpm in 4th gear. I have not been given a speeding ticket, yet , so I must be on the right track. I wonder how fast the 5-speed manual version can go?

Those sound about right 82-300td, my 84 was about the same however my 83 has slightly different numbers. 65mph => 2800rpms, 70mph => 3000rpms I've never really paid attention to 80mph, my cars normally stay under 65mph as I'm not on the expressways much.
