'81 240d 4-speed car...no start after filter service
Hello guys I have been lurking here for some time and just bought a '81 240D in southern Ca. for $800. It is burgundy with tan int, no sunroof, manual windows & stick. It's the ultimate taxi cab and I love it. I am trying to learn more about it. I just performed a fuel filter and oil change as I did not know the history of last change. I went with Mobil-1 15-50. Problem is now I have to shut it down using the manual lever The key is no help to shutdown. What do I need to adjust/do? Thanks for the help, -a

I'm still learning too but Im going to take a stab at it. Others pipe in and tell me if Im an idiot or not.
See if you knocked any little vaccum lines off while doing your service. I think the shut down is a vaccum opperated switch.

This car shuts down by using vacuum. The key switch actually controls a vacuum signal that pulls on the STOP lever (actually something attached to the STOP lever).
When you changed the oil filter, there are a LOT of vacuum lines running around all over the place in that area. You probably pulled one loose and that is leaking out all the vacuum. Take a close look at all those vacuum lines again, especially the ones that run near the oil filter cannister. Ken300D

I did!
I actually broke not a line but a plastic pipe that one of the lines goes into....I re-attatched the line and taped it until I can get a new plastic part, damn maybe I screwed it up until then? THanks for the heads up.
