Intake Manifold Removal

I'm going to attempt an intake manifold removal and cleaning for the first time. I suspect it's gunked up because my engine is surging. Someone told me there is an intake manifold gasket that he has a hard time finding.

Does that gasket have to be replaced when I remove the IM?

Any suggestions on where to get one?

Thanks.

Fastlane

Should be a simple matter of clicking on the Fastlane icon at the top of this forum. Go to online catalog and then enter your car etc and you will find what you need unless it is something really peculiar. If that is the case then call the 888 number and they will take care of you. They deliver very reliably...

As to just the intake gasket I do not know what car you are refering to but on my car you pull both the intake and exhaust at the same time and there is one gasket for both.

As far as your symptoms I doubt it is just the intake manifold being gunked up that is causing this surging.

If you give us more info on the manifestation of this problem folks might be able to help you diagnose and fix the problem. Include the year and model too.

Sorry, didn't know what I was thinking leaving out my car details... '96 E300D, and there was a previous thread where several people suggested a gunked up intake manifold or sticking flaps causing that problem. I want to be sure I have a gasket before I pull off the IM.

... the problem being a surging of the engine under light loads around 2500 rpm... that disappears when accellerating or under heavier loads.

Someone else will have to give advice on this one.
