Looking at buying 82 300TD

Hi,
I am looking at an 82 300TD with approx 250k miles on it. No 3rd seat. It appears to have a few minor paint bubbling spots on a door and right behind the right rear wheel. I had owned an 83 300D in the past (that I had sold at 170k miles). Regarding maintainence, the owner appears to be fairly thouough with shop receipts since he has owned it, about 11 years. He has kept it garaged and the paint and trim look very good, except the few paint spots. The interior looks very good. He had the rear hydraulic shocks replaced with bilsteins several years ago and has within the last had front end maintenance performed. It dorve fairly well, but might need the injectors cleaned (ran rough upon initial start but quickly smoothed out once warmed). I did not get to check all the windows, etc, but I believe that everything works properly. I was wondering about the longevity of the injection pump and other major components on these cars? He is asking $3000 for the car. Is that high or resonable? Thanks,

Lee

The car is located along the east coast ofFL. 2 spots are on the driver door under the trim strip and one on the right side by the rear side window trim. The largest spot is at the back bottom of the right rear wheel opening.

Back in the summer I picked up my "84 300TD. There is no rust, excelent interior, 3 seat. 140,000 mi. I traded my 85 Lumina with 180,000 mi and $500. I figure it evended out around $3,000 or so. Of course this is in Indian not Florida and I picked it up on a GMC dealership way out in the boonies. I'm not sure they knew what a Mercedes was. The third seat was full of straw! I would think you could either get a better price or a better car.

Florida explains the rust I imagine. I moved away from there after looking hard at my two VW's after living in Okeechobee for a year or so. Never again.

I'd look out of state if I were you.
