Engine Replacement - HELP!

My 1982 automatic 240D is the unfortunate victim of a seized engine. I've been debating as to either replace the engine or find another Benz. I've received support on both sides, especially since my 240D is in such good shape.

I've considered putting in a rebuild (which is a bit pricey at $3k), getting a used from a salvage yard (much cheaper, not very comfortable with that) and now I've located a 1980 automatic 300D for $500 - it's in fair condition inside and out but runs great.

So, is it even worth considering pulling the 240 and putting in a 300?

Does anyone have any additional options?

Or if I should kiss her goodbye, any suggestions on finding some older Benz's for sale? I've located a bunch but they're thousands of miles away and I would be buying a car that I'd only seen over the internet.

To shoot it or not

rgarner,

If you're madly in love with your 240D and the body is fine as is the interior then reengine it.

adsitco.com offers rebuilt 300DT engines for $3595 plus shipping.

Take the turbo engine mate it with a 240D 4 speed manual tranny and you'll be so happy with the results, you'll never think of getting another car. It'll last you until the end of time and you'll smile all the way.

Just for fun, leave the 240D trunk emblem, it'll confuse all those rice rockets!!

Ben
