Someday I'd like to try a 240D engine with a generator head myself. Next time Hurricane Isabel comes through here I'll be selling power throughout the neighborhood.

Seriously though. Rack the thing up with I-beams and angle iron. Use the cruise control actuator to control the speed.

Makes sense...one of the other Scout boats has two Daimler-Benz gensets. I think they're OM616's, but I'm not sure...I've never been down in the engine room on that boat.

I wish there was space in the engine compartment on my boat for a genset; I'd love to get my hands on that engine and make it so we have power when the main engine's not running...but alas, no space and even if there were, the shipping cost would be prohibitive

Why go for a crusty old OM616, when you could get a brand spankin' new OM612?

hmmm what a great engine to put in a 240D. MB also has a 5 speed manual that will bolt right up to that. A 270D CDI would be a cool car!

I was thinking it would be a good engine in a Suzuki Samari project rig I have but I have NO clue what tranny will mate with it and how long the combination wouild be.

I want to put a diesel in the Sammi. They have kits to put VW diesls in them.

Anyone got any other ideas for a small diesel/tranny combo to put in a Suzuki Sameri?

I thought this 4banger was physically as big as most V6's? Besides what tranny would mount to that that is not rather long. If the whole thing's length is long then rear drive shaft is short and that makes it not work out as a good combo for a trail use 4x4
