seat belt retractor stuck 85300td
It's stuck in the position I normally use it. Won't go out or in. Any ideas as to the cause and the fix?

I just used the car again and now it is free. I did nothing to the car in the meantime besides leaving it parked on the street. Can anyone tell me what was going on?

If it's like my '86 would just attribute to age. Occasionaly mine will do the same and usually notice the seat belt hanging out of the bottom of the door upon return. Probably the return spring is getting weak.

How would a weak return spring cause it to lock in one fixed position? It wouldn't go back in no matter how I tried.
I've come to the conclusion that perhaps if I had reversed at a fair speed and slammed on the brakes, whatever locks the seatbelt from extending when forward motion is stopped would have come loose from rapid reverse decceleration. Anyone ever had to do this? |
