Is the throttle linkage supposed to be this way?

After reading the archives, I had a close look at ly throttle linkage. SInce I was by myself, I couldnt hold the pedal down to the floor to test, so I just moved the whole setup by hand, figuring it would stop when the pedal hits the floor.

What I found was that at full extension of the linkages (full throttle), the linkage was about 1mm from the bolt that is supposed to stop it.

Going back to the idle position, I found that about 3/4 of the way back, the throttle linkage hit the minimum extension bolt (the vertical one that is kind of recessed), and so from there the linkage moved back to the rest point of the pedal, but the part on the IP did not move back any further.

So, I suppose I ought to adjust things so that at full throttle the setup just barely touches the max throttle bolt on the IP. This ought to reduce the travel of the linkages once the setup hits the minumum bolt, right?

What is the best linkage to adjust to do this. I knwo ther are all adjustable, but Id prefer to mimimize adjustments so that it is simpel, fast, and easily recoverable to the original way if I want to change it back for whatever silly reason.

Any help would be great,
Thanks,

JMH

I am not certain what bolt you refer to. A picture would be worth a few words -- but if you refer to the stop plate, there is a gap that is supposed to be there, it is not intended to "bottom"
Our friend Rusty's web site has info by Dan Penoff that describs this in his "how-to" on adjusting transmission modulator.
In his words:
"With the throttle linkage at full throttle the clearance between the flat on the lever and the stop pin should be 0.5 mm or 0.020". If not adjust the linkage to achieve this clearance."
see: http://transmission.articles.mbz.org/adjust/
There is a close relationship between throttle linkage and how and when your transmission shifts, just mess with the linkage and you will find this to be the case.

OK, hopefully this helps...
There is a vertical bolt with a slotted head, located between the IP and the engine block that determines the stop for the minimum position of the throttle linkage
Then there is a bolt that is parallel with the backside of the pump, i.e. it runs side to side with respect to the car, which determines where the maximum position of the throttle linkage is... Mine doesnt reach said bolt, there is about 1mm between the stopping bolt and the part on the linkage designed to hit it.

Just so you know exactly what you are dealing with I would use a stick or weight to fully hold the accelerator pedal to the floor and then observe things. This gives you a much more realistic view of things.
