So far, so good...

Hello all,

I have been away for a few weeks vacating. I just wanted to let everyone know how my $100 300D engine is doing since I installed it. I know that nobody asked but I thought I would tell you anyway.

I drove her to Myrtle Beach, SC and back home (Seneca, SC) twice in one week! I averaged 25 to 27 mpg and consumed 1.25 qts during these little excursions.

The car had a terrible shake at hot idle in gear and out of gear. I replaced the copper seals in the IP, installed two new injectors (others tested great), and just yesterday I set the IP timing. The Ip was off by 9 degrees(????). Now she is dead on 24dbtdc. THe awful plume of smoke at start-up is gone. The little hiccup after start-up is gone. She is idleing much smoother at hot idle but the "rocking" is still noticeable. Anyway, I am very impressed with my $100 300D engine. BTW, she is a non turbo, 1980 300D with no EGR, installed in a 1982 240D. I am lovin' it!

Well, I am off to the ATL airport where ol' blue eyes (that's her name) will be parked for the next few days while my wife and I celebrate our 11th anniversary in Vegas, LA, and Beverly Hills.

Oilslick:

Don't leave me hanging.....

Is it a manual or automatic?

Just completed (a few months ago) same procedure in a manual. Love it but have a list of bugs to work out.

Thanks

Don

Unfortunately..

it is an automatic. I just installed the tranny about six months prior to the engine so I wanted to get my money's worth out of it. I did however run across a nice '81 240D with a manual trans, a broke timing belt, and no driveshaft for $200. It's mine for the taking but I haven't had time to go get it. I've been too busy vacating!
What bugs are you working out? Are they only related to the manual tranny?

Kevin
