Mann oil filter for 300sd

The filter kit came with a rubber o-ring, the filter, and two washers. A silver colored washer and a copper colored washer.

I used the silver colored washer for the drain plug.

What is the copper colored washer for?

Thanks.

dwcasey,

The copper colored washer is for the drain plug. The silver colored washer is for an earlier version of the oil cannister cap. The earlier version has a single fastener at the center of the cap. The rod attached to your cap is instead attached to the center of the filter housing. The end is threaded and goes through the cap, and the cap is held down by a nut that screws down on these threads. The washer goes under the nut. Some gas cars still use this system, like my 190E 2.3-16. On the Diesel I think the size of the oil filter cannister/housing is such that the single fastener at the center was not as robust as the system on your car. Good luck and I hope this helps. Jim

That was helpful. Thank you. I had a problem with the rubber o-ring not getting seated properly and ended up with a lot of oil underneath the car

Just wanted to make sure that it didn't go on the rod on the cannister cover that goes through the oil filter.

I put the original o-ring back in and will try it again tonight.

Thanks again.
